And depending on your unique income situation, can oftentimes find women either getting back into a career or having to navigate going through divorce while in a career. Regardless divorce can give us a perspective where we start asking questions. About ourselves. We have questions about our lives, our choices, our happiness.
[00:00:58] And it can also be an incredible opportunity for strength, for growth, for self discovery. For me, I had left my career in finance after getting married to help work and my ex-husband’s business. So when I filed for divorce, I was having to find ways to get back into my career in finance. And I had a Tech-Talk recently go viral on how I used my divorce to get a job. So I wanted to dive deeper on this.

Today, we are going to be exploring how your divorce experience can add unique strengths to your resume and help you step confidently into the career of your dreams.

We often wonder about our worth, that can carry over into our professional world, our professional life. As working women, if this is you. [00:03:11] Your divorce experience has instilled qualities like adaptability, problem solving, determination, all of which are highly valuable in any career. Any hiring manager would be lucky to have somebody with those qualities. So it’s time to reclaim your career power, no matter your age or your previous job experience, you have unique strengths to offer.
[00:03:39] Don’t let divorce to find you, but let it strengthen you. The average divorce takes about a year from beginning to end. And my took way longer, but.
[00:03:51] That’s longer than some people stay in a job. So while you can’t necessarily add your divorce to your resume, you can add skills and you can apply your experience towards strengthening some skills that you already have, as well as discovering things that you’re good at. We are making lemonade with these divorce lemons, ladies.
[00:04:16] That’s exactly what I did. I used some of the skills that I had to apply during my divorce to strengthen my skill for the job that I was applying for at the time. I want you to think about. Some of the roles or hats that you had to wear while going through divorce. What kinds of things did you have to coordinate? Was it paperwork?
[00:04:38] Schedules entire households. Even if you hired an attorney, you still had to collaborate with. Other professionals. And as well as probably other people to help you. There might’ve been a realtor involved. Gosh, moving companies. So many different things, other family members that you had to coordinate with even Dealing with. In. X that is. Not the easiest to deal with. All of those things matter. You had to collaborate with a lot of people to provide timelines and documents and get things in order more than likely some things are coming to mind. And these are things that you can either add to skills that you already have on your resume.
[00:05:32] Or have added new skills that maybe compliment a role that you want to step into. Here’s another way to enhance your resume using your divorce. Let’s talk about how to showcase your strength and your growth. In your resume and your cover letter. So avoid focusing on the divorce itself, but you can highlight the skills you’ve gained along the way.
[00:05:58] And you can also share your ability to handle challenges, communicate effectively. And maintain composure during difficult times. I guarantee who your potential employers will recognize your worth. When you demonstrate how your divorce experience has shaped you. Into a resilient and resourceful candidate.
[00:06:22] This is also a very powerful example to bring up in a job interview. People are always looking for candidates who are extremely resilient, who are able to handle and navigate difficult situations and who are also able to adapt to new situations.
[00:06:43] So let’s talk now about going from a job that you’re in to a dream job and applying some of those passions and to creating and cultivating a career that you love. So for those of you already in the workforce, let’s talk about transforming your current job into the career of your dreams. Take a moment to connect with your passions and even some of the skills.
[00:07:12] The things that light you up and bring joy to your soul that you do, that only you can do that are uniquely you. A lot of women in this community are highly organized and love being efficient. That is. 100% a skill. So take any ideas and unleash that creativity and envision. How you can integrate it into your current role. Maybe it involves Stepping into a role that will bring you a promotion. Maybe it’s another role or another area that your company has to offer that you want to maybe move into. And it’s also a way when you, once you’ve identified. Some curiosity into maybe going into another department, you can also seek out mentors.
[00:08:07] That are in those departments and you can start to cross train. Which will also help to enhance your work experience.
[00:08:18] So take any ideas and unleash that creativity and envision how you can integrate it into your current role and explore any new career paths that may be outside of the role that you’re currently in. Remember. It’s never too late to change career paths or pursue your dreams. Trust in yourself and your abilities and watch your dream job just unfold before you.
[00:08:45] Rolling in. You can totally manifest this for yourself. Once you start to identify some of these things that maybe you hadn’t noticed before. When you put it out there, you’re then opening that invitation to start receiving those opportunities back. And I promise you. You will start to get some of those opportunities coming in, identifying themselves. Once you have first identified and start putting out those seeds out into the universe.
[00:09:19] So for those looking to embark on a completely new career journey, let’s address some of the fears and uncertainties that come with making a change. Your divorce experience has already taught you how to navigate uncharted territories. That’s a powerful skill to add to your arsenal and something to keep in mind as proof.
[00:09:43] That you can do this. Why? Because you’ve already done it. SIS, you’ve already been able to take something that was uncharged uncharted foreign, a brand new life after a divorce where a lot of people are completely scared shitless. And you were able to step into it. With confidence with grace.
[00:10:09] And. That is all the proof that you need right there. You’ve done it before you can apply this towards anything in the future. I really encourage you to embrace your unique story in divorce. Leverage your resilience and your adaptability to pivot confidently into new industries or positions. And really put yourself out there. Heck even starting a side hustle.
